Major Saturday league crown for Tallaght United
TALLAGHT United were celebrating this week after they secured the Leinster Senior League Saturday Major 1D crown with two games left to play.
The Tallaght outfit have gone on a remarkable run of 13 matches unbeaten with wins over the likes of Sandyhill Shangan, Inchicore Athletic and Blackrock College.
The team were presented with the title after their 6-2 victory over Palmerstown FC in Mill Lane in what was a superb result for the side.
United have played 18 matches so far this season, winning 15, in what is their first season in the Leinster Senior League.
On top of this, Tallaght also reached the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup only going down to Killarney in what was an impressive run.
It’s been a remarkable first year for manager David Brien who only took over the running of the team this term after previously playing for the club.
“It’s been a fantastic year for the lads.
“They have really worked hard, and it has shown in our performances and results,” David told The Echo.
“It was great to get the league title over the line, we had a backlog of matches to play so its been a very busy few weeks.
“The aim now is to hopefully finish out the league with a couple of more wins,” he added.
Striker Gary Kerins has been in flying form for the champions, helping himself to 37 goals so far while Eric Harmon in midfield and captain Robert Baxter have been others to impress.
Only in existence five years, the Tallaght outfit, who play out of the VEC Grounds will be hoping to build on this successful season.
