Pretty little bonny baby Susan wins Echo prize

AFTER MAKING it into the final ten, Susan Devitt was crowned The Echo’s Bonny Baby of 1982 at a reception in Molloy’s of Tallaght on Friday. Susan, who grew up in Old Bawn with her two brothers and her parents Robbie and Audrey, now lives in Clondalkin.
She got the thrill of her life when she realised she won. Susan told The Echo: “We were getting a taxi home after the reception and I told the driver that I had just won a bonny baby competition. He told me that I looked ‘a bit long in the tooth’.”
Susan’s mother sent in the adorable photo of her in a lovely dress. Susan said: “I think they had to do nine or ten takes to get me to hold my dress up.” She was seven months old when the photo was taken.
She was presented with her prize, a cheque for €1,000, by Emma Kennedy, Managing Director of The Echo. Susan said she wasn’t expecting to win.
She said: “I was delighted. I couldn’t believe it. I had come straight from work – I wish I had made more of an effort.”
Susan says she and her boyfriend are going to use the money for a trip abroad.
She said: “We are planning to go away. We have nothing planned or booked at the moment. We might to go to see my brother in America.” Her two brothers live in Drogheda and America.
Susan never expected that she would win. She said; “I really didn’t think I would win. All the other photos were so lovely. It was a great surprise, and I’m delighted. My three nephews can’t wait to see the pictures. It was a great night”.
