Courses ‘a stepping stone’ to third level

DEANSRATH Community College held their graduation ceremony for adult education students recently. Students who completed courses in Early Childhood Care and Education, Special Needs Assistant, Nursing Studies, English and Computers, Hairdressing, Retail Practice and Engineering Technology celebrated another successful year for a college which has great success in training people for employment and has deep roots in the local community.

This year the college worked in cooperation with IT Tallaght who provided laboratory facilities for the course in Electronics Engineering.

The continuing development of the Internet makes electronics skills more marketable and many of the graduates are pursuing further electronic engineering studies at Tallaght.

A prize was presented to Mr John Byrne for his achievement as Student of the Year in the electronics course.

Commenting on the course, James Wright, Dept Head of Electronics said: “We are very impressed with the calibre of all the students at Deansrath, and with the dedication and commitment of Engineering teacher Mr Anthony Carty.

“Anthony has worked closely with David Maguire of IT Tallaght, who led the cooperation with Deansrath, in co-delivering the course.

“Deansrath Community College Engineering Teacher Anthony Carty said: “As a community college we provide important opportunities for adult learners through our school. Engineering Technology is one such course that acts as a stepping stone into third level or directly into apprenticeship programmes”.
