Gardai investigating attempted armed robbery at Tallaght post office

GARDAI are investigating if two attempted armed robberies in Tallaght and Crumlin on Tuesday, which happened within 20 minutes of each other, were carried out by the same gang.

On Tuesday, December 6, armed robbers entered the post office at Glenview just after 4pm and threatened staff.

However, quick-thinking employees made their way out of the post office and into a secure area at the back, which resulted in the perpetrators leaving the premises empty-handed.

Twenty minutes later, at around 4.30pm, an attempted armed robbery occurred at the McDonald’s in the Ashleaf Shopping Centre in Crumlin, which saw raiders enter the restaurant, armed with what is believed to have been firearms, and threaten terrified staff and customers – which included children.

The raiders eventually left empty-handed and no injuries were reported.

When asked by The Echo if there was a link between the two raids, a senior Garda source said: “There is no solid link between the two attempted robberies, but there is a possibility and we are investigating that as part of the investigation into both incidents.

“Gardaí at Tallaght are currently liaising with gardaí in Crumlin as part of investigations.”

Anybody with information on either incident is encouraged to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 6666000, Crumlin Garda Station on 6666200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
