Social Justice Week is one of the most important calendar events of the year, a time when students reflect on the society we live in and find ways to make a difference to those who need justice.

Father Peter McVerry visited the college during the week and shared his personal stories and experience of helping the homeless.

Later that night, a group of students held a sleep-out outside the doors of the college in order to raise funds for the Peter McVerry Trust. The hardy students raised over €1,000.

ITT SU President Jessica Wall told The Echo: “We were delighted with the support we got as we braved the cold weather and the total amount raised was €1,137.05.

“We are thrilled that we could donate to the brilliant cause right before Christmas. On behalf of ITT SU, I would like to thank everyone that took the time to sleep out with us, donate to the Trust, and also everyone who encouraged us to keep going.”

The students also carried out food, toys and clothing appeals throughout the week with all donations going towards St Vincent De Paul.
