Hope suicide looking to locate to larger premises

THE Hope suicide prevention drop-in centre is expanding and seeking the community’s support in locating a larger premises.

Established in June 2013 by Tallaght mother Mary McLoughlin in response to the growing number of people losing their life to suicide, Hope offers support, counselling and a cup of tea to anybody feeling depressed, anxious or suicidal through its weekly drop-in centre – which runs every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm in Trustus House on Main Road, Tallaght.

Over the past three years, the voluntary service has grown due to demand for its services, with Hope now on the look-out for a new premises that would support an expansion of both services and opening hours.

Hope founder Mary McLoughlin told The Echo: “Trustus House has been great and was so central.

“However, we have outgrown the premises there and would like to extend our drop-in hours from one evening to maybe two or three.

“We’d also like to find a location that would allow us to offer services during the day like counselling, meditation and group meetings.”

She added: “People are also fundraising for us and we would like to put that money to good use by securing a bigger premises and offering more services.

“What we really need is a place to call home and any local business, individual or group that is aware of a premises that might be suitable for us is invited to get in touch.”
