Tallaght’s Lenny Ryan clinches bronze medal at World Transplant Games

Lenny Ryan from Tallaght has clinched a bronze medal at the World Transplant Games in Spain, which started yesterday.

Last year Lenny, who is from Tymonville, returned from the European Transplant Games with two medals, and he wasted no time in adding to that haul, taking a bronze in his favoured Petanque event.

Speaking after his third place finish Lenny said: “I really enjoyed the challenge. I beat an Iranian athlete in the third round. He was a lovely guy and it was an enjoyable and close game.

“I played against a Thai athlete in the semi-final and unfortunately lost to him. The weather is scorching which is an added challenge.

“I’m delighted to have won the bronze and I dedicate it to my donor.”

Lucan doctor Claire Kennedy is also part of the team who have travelled to Malaga for the World games. Claire works in the Transplant Department at Beaumont Hospital.
