School principal thwarted alleged attempted burglary

A BOY (14) who was allegedly caught in possession of €50 worth of cannabis has also been charged with attempted burglary at a Tallaght national school, Tallaght District Court has heard.
The boy, who has an address in Tallaght, is charged with simple possession of cannabis at a location in Tallaght on April 20, 2017.
This week he was also charged with attempted burglary at a national school in Tallaght on April 27, 2017.
The boy appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara in custody.
Garda Darren Rooney said he arrested the boy a few minutes earlier in the presence of his mother and charged him with the new offence.
He said he had no objection to bail.
Judge McNamara asked Garda Rooney if he had DPP directions. Garda Rooney replied that the DPP had directed that directions were a matter for the court to decide.
Judge McNamara asked what was alleged.
Garda Rooney said it will be alleged that at 1pm on April 27 last, the boy and another boy entered the grounds of the school while there was a number of children playing on their break.
He said it will be alleged that they attempted to force open a window with a screwdriver and then attempted to force open a second window before they were confronted by the principal of the school.
Judge McNamara accepted jurisdiction.
The teenager’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, asked the judge to make an order for CCTV.
He also told the judge that his client was pleading guilty to the cannabis charge.
Sergeant Eithne Madden said that on April 20 last, the teenager had been found in possession of €50 worth of cannabis by gardai.
She remanded the teenager on continuing bail for four weeks for a probation report on the drugs charge and for mention on the attempted burglary.
