Accused of stealing €500 worth of copper from Lidl store

TWO men accused of stealing €500 worth of copper wiring from the Lidl store in Fortunestown that is currently being rebuilt have appeared before Tallaght District Court.
Judge Patricia McNamara accepted jurisdiction in Gary Kelly and John McAleer’s case.
Kelly, aged 40, with an address at Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, and McAleer, aged 26, with an address at Hazelhill, Tallaght, are charged with stealing copper wiring worth €500 and trespassing at Lidl, Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght, on July 4, 2018.
Sergeant Michael Ahern told Judge McNamara that the DPP had directed summary disposal.
Judge McNamara asked what was alleged.
Sgt Ahern said it will be alleged that just before 11pm on July 4 last, Kelly, McAleer and another individual were seen taking down a boundary at the Lidl site at Fortunestown Lane and driving into the site.
He said that the gardai were called to the scene and they stopped the vehicle which was allegedly full of copper wiring. Sgt Ahern said the wiring was worth €500.
Kelly and McAleer were represented by their solicitor, Padraig O’Donovan.
In response to Judge McNamara, Sgt Ahern said CCTV of the alleged incident was not available.
Making an order for disclosure, Judge McNamara remanded Kelly and McAleer on continuing bail to a date in September for a plea or a date for hearing.
