Additional information sought on GAA Spawell ‘Cluster’ facility

ADDITIONAL information has been requested by South Dublin County Council in relation to the development of an extensive GAA ‘cluster’ facility at the Spawell complex in Templeogue.

The council has requested that the applicant, the Dublin GAA County Board, submit information regarding traffic, access and parking, heritage and biodiversity, and green infrastructure.

Additional information is also being sought in relation to the layout of the development and the boundary at Wellington Lane, and also surface water drainage and archaeology.

As previously reported in The Echo, the Dublin GAA County Board, which owns the 35-acre Spawell site, submitted a planning application for a GAA ‘cluster’ facility at the Spawell last November.

Their proposal includes one synthetic all-weather and three floodlit GAA pitches, and the construction of a single-storey pavilion.

The pavilion is to comprise ten changing rooms, showers and toilets, a kitchen preparation and service area, a team meeting room, a gym, a medical room, a physio room and a tuck shop.

Other aspects of the proposal include two 500-capacity spectator stands, a hurling wall, a walking/jogging trail, and 112 car parking spaces.

Third-party submissions have been made by residents on the planning application, where concerns about parking and traffic issues were raised.

A number of GAA clubs from around the county also lodged submissions on the proposal, voicing their support for the facility as it would “ease pitch congestion” and benefit many clubs.

On January 15, South Dublin County Council reached the decision that additional information was needed for the planning application to proceed.

The applicant has six months from the date of the council’s decision to submit the required information, otherwise the application will be deemed withdrawn.
