Adeleke back on Youth Olympics stage
RHASIDAT Adeleke returns to the European Youth Olympic Games stage next week, hoping to again make the podium.
The Tallaght Athletic Club sprinting sensation, won silver in the 200m at this very event in Hungary in 2017, and will be looking to build on that when she contests both the 100m and 200m at this year’s event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Rhasidat Adeleke will be back in the Youth Olympics.
“Training has been going well” Adeleke told The Echo. “I’ve just had a hard training block, getting prepared, because this will be the first time that I will have run in two events at a major championship.
“I means that there will hopefully be six races in three days, so that’s a lot and I have to be prepared for that” she pointed out.
Adeleke, The Echo’s Sports Star of 2018 following her gold medal win at the European Under 18 200m Championships and silver with the Ireland 4x100m Relay team at the World Under 20 Championships, has been in fine form coming into the Youth Olympics.
Indeed she recently stormed to victory in the 100m at the National Junior and Under 23 Championships in Tullamore.
That victory also saw her surmount a very tough field that included her training partner and fellow Ireland international athlete Patience Jumbo-Gula as well as Alannah McGuinness
This followed up on her season’s best time of 23:89 for the 200m which she recorded at the Mannheim Gala Meet in which she was part of the Ireland Under 20 team.
