Adeleke makes sensational start to pro career

LIFE as a professional sprinter started swimmingly for Rhasidat Adeleke as she made a sensational debut, coming second behind the current world champion at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary.

Having turned professional on Sunday evening, Adeleke donned the Nike colours as she recorded a stellar 22.36 to finish second over 200m.

World champion Shericka Jackson, from Jamaica, lead the field with a 22.02 time, with the Tallaght AC runner’s 22.36 time inside the Olympic qualifying standard.

It was the 20-year-old’s second fastest run over 200m, with her Irish record of 22.34 still intact.

The race marked the former Presentation Community College first race since becoming the NCAA Champion over 400m in Austin, Texas, five-weeks-ago.

Adeleke will make debut in the prestigious Diamond League in Monaco at 7.15pm on Friday, which can be viewed on the Wanda Diamond League YouTube channel.
