All in the timing – Lucan drama begins the new year with two plays

Lucan Drama starts the new year with the staging of two short plays on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8.
The group will perform the two comedies ‘Chocolate’ – directed by Lucan Drama chairperson Jack C. Flanagan – and ‘All In The Timing’ by top director Vini Casey each evening.

Jack Flanagan’s ‘Chocolate’ is a re-adapted version of a play originally staged in Florida, but will be shown for the first time in Ireland by Lucan Drama.
Just like the other play ‘All in the Timing’, ‘Chocolate’ features two actors.
“Basically, it is a tale about a woman who has a detective around her house because it looks like she killed her husband,” Jack Flanagan told The Echo.
In order to prevent her being a suspect, the wife gives the detective “ridiculous excuses” numerous times, which the investigator always falls for.
Pointing out that rehearsals are a long process, Jack said preparations for the short play started two weeks before Christmas.
Both actors and others involved meet twice a week for an hour to practise.
Catherine Collins from Ballina, Co Mayo has worked with the group before.
In ‘Chocolate’ she plays the role of the wife, Mrs Cobby, and the detective will be played by actor Garry O’Brien.
In fact, the adaptation will be the first time ever on stage for Garry.
Director Jack got help for his comedy from Assistant Director Maud Fogarty and Light and Sound Coordinator Jeff Gibson, who also helped Vini Casey with his play ‘All in the Timing’.
The All-Ireland winning actor directs a play that tells the story of a couple meeting on a night out, where not everything goes as it should.
“It shows the social do’s and don’ts for dating,” said Jack.
Like his colleague, Vini began preparations for the play’s staging around two weeks before Christmas.
His two actors are Cian Lucas – who really worked hard to get the role – as the guy, and the group’s golden girl B.
“She is an exceptional good actress,” said chairman Guy Kelly.
“It [All in the Time] is a laugh-a-minute play.
“Vini is very well known and specialises in comedies,” he said.
Jack is already looking forward to a night full of “shock and laughter”, where people get a three-course meal and both plays included in the admission price of €25.
After the weekend, Lucan Drama go back to the Bray One Acts Drama Festival and show three own acts at the All-Ireland Final Circuit.
Jack is already filled “with the intent of going to the All-Ireland and hopefully pick up a win there,” to make 2020 just as successful as the “fantastic” 2019, when Lucan Drama won the best overall play at the Insight Theatre Celbridge One Act Festival with ‘Little Box of Oblivion’.
They also won best comedy in Bray and saw their actress Eva Gately winning the best actress award.
