All systems go for the Red Line Book Festival

Now in its eighth year, Red Line Book Festival is all set and ready to go as a plethora of Irish and international authors come to South Dublin from Monday, October 8 to Sunday, October 14.
This year the festival is bigger then ever and has been extended a further two days, to seven, with an added 22 programmes, compared to last year’s event which saw over 3000 people attend the festival.

Red Line is an initiative set up by South Dublin Libraries and Arts that aims to bring local, national, and international stars in the world of prose, poetry, and writing, all together to celebrate the arts in venues across South Dublin.
This year’s festival brings together an abundance of talent including bestselling writers such as crime-fiction author Sophie Hannah in the event ‘Killer Instincts’, space-opera novelist Peter F Hamilton, and the first poet to win The Guardian First Book Award, Andrew McMillan.
Some of the Irish acts on show includes ‘Mna na hEireann’ as Joe Duffy joins leading Irish historians to mark 50 years of voting rights for women in Ireland, Rick O’Shea is joined by Senator Lynn Ruane for the ‘Rick O’Shea Book Club’, and Allison Spittle will host a panel discussion along with Tara Flynn, Aoife Dooley and more for ‘Internet Famous’.
For a younger audience, ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ is a one woman performance of The Wizard of Oz for children in first to fourth class, while a host of local talent will be on display such as poet Eileen Casey, who will host a writing workshop, and Jolene Cox will discuss her first book and host a cooking demo.
Also on the agenda is the ‘Red Lines’ book launch, which is an assortment of poems from previous entries to the Red Line Book Festival Poetry Competition, as well as the announcement of winners from this year’s poetry and writing competitions.
All of the events take place across venues such as Tallaght Library, Civic Theatre, Lucan Library, Rathfarnham Castle, The Round Tower Clondalkin and many more so everybody should be in walking distance from an event.
