A CLASSICAL singer, whose passion for singing developed when she collaborated with Keywest frontman Andrew Kavanagh several years ago, is hoping to hit the right note with her upcoming recital in Ballyroan in aid of Autism Ireland.

Amy Costello (20), from Springfield in Tallaght, originally started out as a pop singer but was encouraged by Keywest’s Andrew Kavanagh to pursue classical singing, and now the talented singer is studying classical singing in DIT.

The past pupil of St Paul’s Secondary School in Greenhills is also being taught repertoire singing by Tallaght musician and composer Damian Gallagher, and Amy is relishing learning the skills that are required for classical singing.

Amy told The Echo: “I started off singing with the lead singer of Keywest, and we recorded a cover and then his band got more and more busy, and he told my mam that I’d be best getting classically trained.

“It’s great, I’m learning a lot of new things. I’ve performed in the National Concert Hall and in competitions, and I’m in the DIT Choral Society.”

Now Amy will take to the stage at the Ballyroan Ruah Centre in Rathfarnham next month, with a number of guests also performing on the night, in aid of Autism Ireland.

Close to my heart

Amy said: “The charity is very close to my heart, and I’d just like to give back to others.

“It’s always great to make people more aware of autism.

“I want to raise as much as I can [for Autism Ireland].”

Tickets for Amy’s performance, which will take place on Sunday, April 15, at 7.30pm in the Ballyroan Ruah Centre, cost €10 and people are welcome to make donations too.

If you want to purchase tickets for the performance, which is selling fast, then you can contact Annette Costello on 087 757 6304 between 5pm and 8pm.
