
Ann becomes world champion
DONORE legend Ann Woodlock has become a world champion, she was the decisive winner of the W80 World Indoor 3000m at Toruń Poland on the first day of the World Masters Championships.
She has been training diligently for the past months and was the clear winner of her race in 19.52
She started off a great day for the Irish athletes at these championships who have already won a slew of medals, roll on her next race, the 1500m.
Elsewhere the biggest Donore road contingent was to be found at the Dunboyne 10k.
A slightly different course to last year but still PB friendly with 697 finishers and the last few hundred metres on Dunboyne AC’s 400m track, first Donore runner home was Ian Fitzgerald in a 2 minute PB of a super 32.53 taking 14th place.
Just 11 seconds behind was Darragh Keegan in an excellent 33.06 and 15th place.
Next in was Danny O’Sullivan in 34.09 and 25th place and then Craig Scott in 35.53.
These were the four scorers on the men’s team which came 3rd overall and Danny got the 2nd M40 spot.
Next in was Didier Da Costa in a fine 37.01 and new member Jim Kelly got 41.36.
Getting PBs all season and again here was JP O’Hanlon in 41.44.
Angela Eustace is coming back into fine form and got 46.43 here today with Mark Devine in 47.14.
Completing the team was Blathnaid Hughes in 63.18. At the Banagher Offaly 5k organised by Banagher AC, Ray Hynes was an impressive 3rd place in 15.07 in this fast course which forms part of the Offaly road race series.
The big race in Munster at the weekend with 1025 finishers was the Mallow 10 mile which has always had a reputation for fast times.
Kane Collins was a very impressive 5th in 51.58 with Dunboyne’s Peter Somba just one second ahead.
