Anne’s junior ladies face Crokes in final
ST ANNE’S junior ladies football team secured their place in the Junior ‘E’ Football Championship final in DCU St Claire’s on Sunday.
The Bohernabreena side booked their place in the decider when they overcame the challenge of Ballinteer St John’s in Marlay Park in the semis.
The first half of this evenly matched contest saw the teams trade scores with St Anne’s taking a slight lead into half time.
However on the changeover, Anne’s burst out in the second half extending their lead to four points with scores from Caragh Jones and Ellen Corcoran.
Ballinteer to their credit produced a dominant 10-minute spell going on a 1-3 run and taking the lead by two points to produce a superb recovery.
But with five minutes to go, St Anne’s retook the lead with a goal from Shona McNally who managed to get a hand to a dropped highball into the square.
The final minutes of the game saw Ballinteer throw the kitchen sink at the St Anne’s defence with goalkeeper Maryjane pulling off a number of saves that ultimately won the game for the Bohernabreena club.
The final is a rematch of a round robin fixture where St Anne will face a familiar opponent Kilmacud Crokes C on Sunday in DCU St Clare’s 1pm throw-in.
