Another three points is the focus for Finn
By Stephen Leonard
SHAMROCK Rovers skipper Ronan Finn is not getting too caught up in the significance of tomorrow night’s top-of-the-table clash with defending Airtricity League champ-ions Dundalk in Tallaght Stadium.
The Hoops, who finished runners-up to Vinny Perth’s side in last season’s Premier Division but prevailed when the two teams met in the FAI Cup decider, will bid for the inside track early on in this year’s title race.
Three points is all that Ronan Finn is focusing on heading into Friday’s clash with Dundalk
Both teams have won all of their opening three games of the 2020 campaign, with Rovers ahead only on goal difference, thanks in no small part to their 6-0 thrashing of ten-man Cork City in their first home game of the season on Friday night.
That result, together with victories on the road against Bohemians and Waterford, have left the Tallaght side on a sound footing heading into tomorrow night’s tie.
“It’s a good return and a good start, but this will be a really big test for us on Friday” Finn told The Echo.
“It’s very early in the season, but we’re the home team and we always fancy ourselves when we play at home.
“It’s a chance for us to get another three points. That’s the way we have to look at it and not get caught up in the magnitude of the game.
“We’ve got to believe in ourselves and use the pitch to our advantage. Both teams know each other well and we’ll treat it like we do any other game” he said.
Rovers certainly put on a show for their supporters in their first home game of the season on Friday with Graham Burke chalking up no less than five goals in their rout of the Leesiders.
“Graham is an unbelievably talented players and we’re very lucky to have him. There are a few players there in the team that we’re very lucky to have. Hopefully Graham can bring that form into the game on Friday” added Finn.
On another note, manager Stephen Bradley has bolstered his side with the recent signing of striker Rory Gaffney.
Having helped Bristol Rovers into the League One ranks, Gaffney joined Salford City on a three year contract in June 2018, scoring 12 goals in 33 starts before going on loan with Walsall.
Delighted with this latest acquisition, Bradley said “I’m really happy to get Rory in.
“I think he fits the way we play and fits as a person as well, so he ticks all the right boxes for us. Rory will score goals for us, there’s no doubt about that” he insisted.
