Another voyage for Daniel as he seeks to raise €20k
By Mary Dennehy
LOCAL kid Daniel Tighe is on another voyage, this time for the National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght – where the 11-year-old has been a long-term patient.
Well known around the area for his fundraising efforts, Daniel and his dad Keith are taking on the Dublin City Marathon in October – when they will attempt to beat the time achieved by Daniel and his mam Sinead last year.

Living off the Kiltipper Road in the Riverview estate, Sinead ran the 26 miles last year – and was the first woman to ever push a child in the Dublin City Marathon.
Daniel, who has a rare genetic disorder called Sotos Syndrome, has a specially adapted buggy for when he goes running with his parents.
The National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght has expressed its delight over being selected by Daniel and his family as the recipient of their fundraising initiative – which aims to raise €20,000.
The hospital is also asking runners and walkers to support Daniel’s Voyage by taking part to raise funds for the National Children’s Hospital, which is hoping to put a Team Tallaght together to support the Tighe family on the day.
So generous of his parents
Marian Connolly, Matron at the children’s hospital said, “Daniel is a long-term patient here at the hospital and has been attending for most of his life.
“It is so generous of his parents, Keith and Sinead, to want to give back something to the hospital in such a constructive and positive way.”
The money raised by Daniel and Keith will go directly towards the cost of purchasing vital equipment needed for the young patients at the hospital, which sees more than 75,000 children pass through each year.
According to the hospital, money raised through this initiative will support the purchase of equipment needed alongside fund support services to help make their stay more comfortable.
