Antuan recognised with high academic achievement

Lucan-native Antuan Moldovan was among the promising scholars recently recognised for high academic achievement at the Centre for Talented Youth Ireland’s (CTYI) 2023 Talent Search Awards Ceremony, reports Avery Lin.

The only and largest organisation of its kind in Ireland, CTYI was founded in 1992 at Dublin City University to serve high-achieving students in the model of the leading U.S.-based Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth (CTY).

During its Saturday and summer programmes across eight campuses, the nonprofit runs academically-challenging enrichment and university-style courses for students ages 6 through 17 deemed eligible by assessment.

While a Young Student Assessment is administered to primary-school applicants, secondary-school applicants between 12 and 16 can qualify for advanced CTYI programmes by writing a School and College Ability Test (SCAT) through the annual Talent Search.

Students achieving an age-dependent standard are invited to participate in the challenging three-week summer courses in diverse subject areas ranging from popular fiction, psychology and criminology to computer game design, theoretical physics and sports science.

While providing heightened academic stimulation through course offerings not typically offered at the secondary level, the summer programme also offers gifted students the chance to engage with like-minded peers.

Talent Search participants may join DCU Summer Scholars as well as sign up for Correspondence courses and the Early University Entrance programme for Transition Year students, and scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and need.

Supported by Deloitte Ireland and opened by Dublin Bay North Teachta Dala Richard Bruton, the May 6 ceremony recognised this year’s secondary-school level qualifiers including Antuan.

According to Professor Anne Sinnott, Deputy President of DCU, CTYI is “a truly inspiring space for gifted children and young people, helping them to flourish, both personally and academically.”
