Aoife provides the Keyes for Navy in thrilling win
ST JUDE’S player Aoife Keyes served up a dramatic last-minute point that proved the decisive score in the Navy Team’s thrilling 6-9 to 5-11 victory over the Blue Team in Junior Dubs Stars Challenge match.
The Blues, with the help of Ballyboden’s Karen Cooney, were in control at the halftime break, having raced into a 4-6 to 2-7 lead, thanks in no small measure to Anne Whelan’s late strike to the target.
Two points by Rita Carrol of Thomas Davis together with timely scores from Gillian McCluskey, had helped keep the Navy Team in touch.
Yet with just a quarter of an hour to go, they were facing a nine-point deficit as the Blues exerted a tight grip on proceedings.
But Navy refused to throw in the towel and fought back with scores from McCluskey, Clara O’Sullivan, and Rachel Staunton before Keyes struck the winner.
Also included in the Navy squad were Amy Morgan of Crumlin, St Finian’s Cathy May and Linda Deasy of Thomas Davis, while among the locals who lined out for the Blues were Templeogue Synge Street’s Niamh and Laura Leacy together with Shauna Allen of Robert Emmets and Niamh O’Sullivan of St James’s Gaels.
