Appeal against Amazon Data Centre at former Jacob’s site is withdrawn

AN APPEAL against South Dublin County Council’s decision to grant permission to online retailer Amazon for the development of a data centre, on the site of the former Jacob’s Biscuits factory on the Belgard Road, has been withdrawn.
Planning consultants Sheehan Planning lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala on September 3 under the instructions of Irish Life Assurance PLC, acting on behalf of its property investment fund which owns certain lands to the immediate north of the application site.
The primary concern cited by Sheehan Planning in their appeal centred on “the potential for adverse noise impacts on our client’s site”, as their client’s lands are zoned for regeneration.
Conor Sheehan from Sheehan Planning requested in the appeal that ABP have “due regard to the potential for noise from the proposed data centre development to affect the residential potential of our client’s adjacent site and to impose appropriate conditions to protect future residential amenity on our client’s site.”
In response to the appeal, South Dublin County Council stated that the issues raised in the appeal had already been covered in the planner’s report.
A spokesperson for Irish Life told The Echo: “The appeal was withdrawn on Monday, based on reassurances from Amazon about noise levels.”
Amazon was granted permission for the data centre development last month, bringing their tally of data centres in Tallaght up to five.
