Arts and flower shop wins Best Designed Front Award

A CHEQUE for €1,000 was presented to Clarkeville Art and Flowers by South Dublin County Council  in recognition of the work undertaken to upgrade the shopfront design of its business premises at Old Lucan Road in Palmerstown Village.

The Councils Grant Scheme provides grants for something as simple as painting a shop front and replacing signage, to replacing an entire shop front.

Grants are available for up to €8,500 to a maximum of 50% of overall costs. Furthermore, a prize of €1,000 is awarded annually for the Best Designed Shopfront under the scheme.

In 2017, South Dublin County Council received thirty-four initial applications expressing an interest in the Shop Front Grant Scheme. Of those, ten applications proceeded and were approved in accordance with the criteria for the scheme with approximately €18,000 paid out in grants.

The Shopfront Grant Scheme fund has been increased to €40,000 for 2018.The scheme will be advertised early in 2018 through social media, advertisement in local papers and a leaflet drop to businesses/retailers in the villages of the County. 

The Clarkeville Art and Flowers in Palmerstown is an enterprise run by Stewarts Care.

The award for Best Designed Shopfront was in addition to a grant received to co-fund the improved shopfront design as part of South Dublin County Council’s Shop Front Grant Scheme 2017.

The objective of the grant scheme is to promote high quality shop front design standards in our local villages and town centres and to create an attractive setting in which retailers can establish and develop successful businesses.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Paul Gogarty awarded representatives from Clarkeville Art and Flowers with their prize.

Mayor Gogarty said “I am very pleased to present Clarkville Art and Flowers with their cheque for €1,000 for the Best Designed Shopfront Award 2017. Stewarts Care are an integral part of the local community and the building has a long history in Palmerstown Village. The Shop Front Grant Scheme provides an opportunity for local businesses and retailers to preserve and enhance our village centres, making them more attractive places for people to live, work and visit.”

Speaking on behalf of Stewarts Care Ltd, Suzanne Keena, Manager of Clarkeville Art and Flowers expressed her delight at being awarded the Best Designed Shopfront Award 2017.

“The Clarkeville building represents an iconic and cherished image in the heart of the village in Palmerstown and the award made it possible to lovingly restore the shopfront to a standard befitting its historic location”.
