Ballet Ireland Summer School – Civic hosts return of much-loved programme

By Cody Hutchison

Ballet Ireland’s popular summer school returns to the Civic Theatre this month. The much-loved programme gives participants a chance to experience all that goes into making a ballet and a peek into the life of a professional dancer.

Working alongside Ballet Ireland’s professional dancers, participants will be completely involved in creating their own ballet based on a familiar story. The ballet will then be performed on stage at the end of the week for family and friends to enjoy.

The week-long programme involves daily classes and numerous workshops exploring all the component parts that make ballet: choreography, music, mime, drama and making props and costumes.

It is said to be truly an unforgettable experience for all involved. A 2017 summer school participant spoke on the experience saying, “When I went to sleep I dreamt I was back on stage. I loved it. When can I do it again?’

The programme is presented by Ballet Ireland and is suitable for boys and girls aged 6+ with or without prior dance training.
