In her opening contest she earned a unanimous decision against Mexico’s defending IMMAF champion Yessica Ortega after which she turned in an equally convincing display against Gabriela Horakova of the Czech Republic.
“She was very good, but I felt my striking was way better that her’s” Bannon told The Echo. “She just wanted to get me down and really just sit on me”.
“She’s a bit boring as a fighter, but fair play to her, what she did, she did well. Looking back on it, I landed way more strikes and she wasn’t interested in striking and just wanted to take me down. She was heavy and it was tough.
“I was delighted with the experience I got at the event. It was great to come up against different styles.
“I want to challenge myself against different styles so that when I turn professional next year these styles won’t be new to me.
“From the time of my very first MMA fight I wanted to compete at these World Championships and once I qualified for them about two months ago my preparation was focused completely on that.”
