‘Beauty in a Business Box’ gives a basic boost for practical business start

THE graduation of a dozen young women took place recently after a training programme that could see them go on to start their own business in the beauty industry.

It is a South Dublin County Partnership programme that provides learners from disadvantaged communities, the opportunity to work with professionals and learn the ropes.

Claire McDermott, Lifelong Learning Youth & Community Educator, South Dublin County Partnership, said: “Twelve fantastic local young women took part in our first-ever Beauty Business in a Box programme with South Dublin County Partnership. The programme is the first of its kind which gives learners practical beauty training alongside expert enterprise and employment support to help them to set up their own beauty business.”

The rationale for this programme comes from evidence-based practice from working with people in disadvantaged communities across South Dublin County.

“In partnership with Sarah Naylor (a qualified beauty tutor and business owner) and South Dublin County Partnership (Life Long Learning and Enterprise and Employment teams) we wanted to provide an opportunity to gain skills, training, and a qualification by removing the financial barriers faced by women in disadvantaged areas,” said Ms McDermott.

“We also wanted to accommodate young women who had caring responsibilities by providing flexible hours and the opportunity of a flexible career that can be built around family life.”
