Bee a junior explorer

BUDDING young explorers, who attend local primary schools, are being encouraged to take part in the Folens monthly writing and art competitions in conjunction with The Echo – with the young creatives being given the chance to win vouchers for them and their schools.
Over the next six months, from September to February, there will be two competitions held each month, the junior explorer writing competition and the junior explorer colouring competition, which will change topic every month, with the new topic being announced in The Echo and on Facebook.

Emma Kennedy, the MD of The Echo, said: “The Echo are delighted to be collaborating with Folens on this fantastic junior writing, colouring and schools’ competition.
“As a household school book brand and a long established family business here in Tallaght, just like The Echo, we really feel this is a great fit for both local companies to get together and encourage our young writers and artistic local children and classrooms to put pen to paper, colour a wonderful picture or even create a bird feeder!
“This is great way to promote the creative talents our young readers have, and who knows, we might find our next top journalist, artist or explorer!”
Entrants into the junior explorer writing competition will be in with the chance of winning a €100 voucher and seeing their winning story published in The Echo, and the first entries under the topic ‘An Autumn Adventure’ will be accepted from next Thursday, September 19.
Ambitious young writers are encouraged to sharpen their pencils and write either a fictional story that is set in autumn or a non-fiction account of something they did in autumn.

For little future Picassos, there will also be a monthly colouring competition, and the first winning picture in the competition, which will be under the topic ‘An Autumn Adventure’ will be published in the paper on September 26, and every month thereafter.
The winners will also receive a €25 Smyths Toys voucher.
There will also be a junior explorer participation competition for schools across the county.
Classes could win one of two €200 vouchers. To enter classes can either do a photo collage of a nature walk their class went on between September 19 and February 28, or they can design and make a bird feeder to be used in their school yard – with a photo of the bird feeder being sent to The Echo.
Sue Reilly from Folens told The Echo: “We are delighted to partner with The Echo to offer these competitions to children and their teachers in the local community.
