
Big drive to grow basketball in South County Dublin
BASKETBALL Ireland is increasing its presence in South County Dublin with a new Basketball Ireland Community Development Officer, who will start on April 1.
The role came about after discussions with South Dublin County Council, which led to a collaboration between the two organisations.

With several established clubs like Griffith College Templeogue, DBS Éanna and Dublin Lions, along with a host of others locally, the new Community Development Officer will help to further grow the game and support those clubs and schools.
Basketball Ireland CEO Bernard O’Byrne, said: “The National Basketball Arena is obviously based in the area and we have a great working relationship with South Dublin County Council, this just reaffirms and extends this.
“We’re excited to have a dedicated development officer for South County Dublin, who can get out and about in the local community.
“We’re also bringing in a Community Development Officer for County Meath, so it shows Basketball Ireland’s continued drive to grow our sport.”
Basketball Ireland and South Dublin County Council began talks last year to bring in a new Community Development Officer and the new person will be based in South Dublin County Council.
They will be responsible for providing participation opportunities for all sections of the community in various basketball activities and will work with organisations including local authorities, schools and governing bodies, with the primary goal of ensuring that suitable programmes and training services are in place at local and national levels.
