THE ICONIC Blue Gardenia in Brittas will reopen in March, with the much-missed pub retaining its name and traditional look after being bought recently.
The pub, which sits at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains was sold with a guiding price of €320,000 after being on the market since 2013.
Despite rumours of the building becoming homeless accommodation, The Echo learned that it will remain a pub.
The pub was purchased by Ciara Ryan from Dundrum and Gregory Fahy from Ticknock. Mr Fahy has a background in bar and hotel management and is the founder of Pedi Bus in Ireland, which is a tour bus powered by pedaling.
Ms Ryan has experience in working in both the hotel and journalism industry and is currently studying to be an auctioneer. She is also a cryptocurrency investor.
She told The Echo this week that she hoped the pub would open for St Patrick’s Day this year.
Works are currently being undertaken on the site, however Ms Ryan told The Echo that she plans to retain the pub’s vintage charm.
She said: “We’re going to keep the old, traditional pub as it was.
“Some people go in and make a place look sterile – we like the traditional look. It will still be called the Blue Gardenia.”
According to Ms Ryan, they are hoping to hold Celtic nights to attract tourists and unlike the previous incarnation of the Blue Gardenia, the pub will not serve food initially.
Its previous owner was Paddy Eustace who is a director of Fewsdew Ltd, which owns the West Wicklow House pub in Blessington village.
RE/MAX Property Associates, based on the Old Bawn Road in Tallaght handled the sale.
Estate agent Ronan Healy said: “[The Blue Gardenia] had been on the market for over five years with several different agencies, until RE/MAX Property Associates successfully sold the premises in January.”
