BMA hold their own in Bristol Open
BMA Clondalkin travelled to the well-respected Bristol Open Championships championships with nine competitors, all competing in multiple divisions as well as various disciplines last week.
The Bristol Open is the biggest martial arts tournament in the UK and one of the top tournaments in the European circuit at present.

This year, it had a record-breaking number of participants with over 1,900 confirmed registrations from 16 countries.
Twelve-year-old Amy Wade was in outstanding form taking gold in the girl’s light contact category and a well-deserved bronze in the girls’ point fighting discipline.
Her brother Ryan (10 years) reached the semi-finals of the boys’ tag team event with team-mate Zach only to lose by a couple of points to the eventual winners Epic Martial Arts UK.
Seven-year-old Abbie needed an extra case to carry her medals back home. The youngest of the WADE siblings finished the weekend with 5 bronze and a one silver medal.
The brother duo of seven-year-old Eidenas and nine-year-old Aranas were equally impressive with two bronze medals to their name.
Yusuf Kanafunzi reached the final of the boys’ -32kg light contact category, but was narrowly beaten by a split decision and settled for silver.
Ross Gaynor also reached the podium in formidable form with a bronze medal in the boys’ light continuous category.
Zach Lamari finally reached the top of the podium after his 4th consecutive Bristol Open outing. Competing in the boys’ -42kg point fighting division, he was in outstanding form showing perfectly executive blitzing combinations to finally gain the coveted gold medal.
Owen Devlin was very unfortunate not to reach the medal stages after his exit in the quarter finals of the boys +47kg novice point fighting division.
