Boden senior hurlers into league decider
BALLYBODEN St Enda’s are on the brink of capturing their third Dublin Adult Hurling League Division One title in a row and are only one step away from glory.
A combined 5-8 haul from Paul Ryan, Luke McDwyer and Aidan Mellett helped see Boden past the challenge of Whitehall Colmcille last weekend and they will be aiming for a repeat of their 5-27 to 3-15 win when they take on Cuala in the final.
Corner-forward Luke McDwyer tallied 2-1 against Whitehall Colmcille to confirm Ballyboden St Enda’s place in the Division One final.
The league final between the two mighty clubs is coming just weeks before the championship throws-in, with them set to do battle in Parnell Park on August 24.
The Firhouse Road men previously butted heads with the Dalkey outfit back in May, but it ended in a 1-16 all draw after 60 minutes of action.
But both sides are in peak condition, with Cuala registering 20 or more points in their last six games and Joe Fortune’s men hitting their stride when they blew Whitehall out of the water in Collins Avenue last Sunday.
Although they had already qualified for the decider later this month, St Enda’s brought their unbeaten run to 11 games this campaign with yet another clinical display.
Boden raced to a five-point lead when James Roche pointed straight from the throw-in before just moments later Aidan Mellett rose the green flag with his efforts.
Sean Gray broke up the scores for Whitehall by pulling one back before Dublin intercounty player Paul Ryan squeeze the sliotar into the net from a tight angle, with Niall McMorrow and Madden added further points.
At the break, Boden were just five points ahead but within just 12-minutes they blitzed the Colmcille backline hitting 1-8 without reply which included a fine goal from McDwyer.
McDwyer added another before the end while McMorrow notched on his sixth score of the day and Niall Ryan his fourth to conclude the encounter.
Ballyboden will play Cuala in the final next Saturday before they began their campaign to retain the Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship on September 5.
