Bookings for floodlit artificial grass pitch a sell-out success

THE first booking for the new LED-floodlit, artificial grass pitch in Sean Walsh Park was a match between Greenhills AFC and Balscadden FC that took place on Saturday, October 21.

While an official opening of the pitch has yet to take place, the peak hours for the pitch during November and December are almost completely booked out.

The pitch accommodates a full-sized 3G soccer pitch, a rugby pitch with a six-metre in-goal area for training and underage matches, a GAA training pitch and cross-field play for five-a-side soccer.

“It is available for clubs, schools, community sport events and multi-sport usage,” according to South Dublin County Council, which developed the facility.

The opening hours are 9am to 10pm, seven days a week, and it has already become an in-demand and popular pitch in the area.

“The artificial grass pitch has been used for 26 hours to date,” stated a council spokesperson.

“Our expected level of use is maximum usage during peak hours.

“In fact, our peak hours for November and December are almost all booked out.

“During the off-peak hours, the local school, Old Bawn Community School will be using it regularly during their school term.

“There are a number of slots still available peak/off-peak midweek and weekends and can be booked on a first come first served basis, by all clubs/members of the public through our online booking system.”

The online booking system is at www.tinyurl.com/ SeanWalshPitch with a cost of €60 per hour off-peak, or €80 per hour at peak times.
