Bootleg Beach Boys bringing surf to Civic
By Alex Dunne
THE sweet sound of the Beach Boys is coming to Tallaght this September when the unmistakable harmonic music of the Californian icons are brought home by a successful local tribute act writes Alex Dunne.
The Bootleg Beach Boys is a Tallaght band currently touring nationally.
However, they are stopping off at home to play the Civic Theatre on September 11 and, for guitarist Mark Maguire, he couldn’t be more excited.
“It’s going to be brilliant”, said Mark. “It’s close to home so hopefully we’ll get up all of the people that didn’t make it into our city centre show.”
The band is making its Tallaght debut hot on the heels of a sold out show in the Olympia Theatre and a national tour that has seen them play recent gigs in Ballina and Wexford.
Despite Mark and bassist Joe Leech also playing with rock outfit Bipolar Empire, which released a new album entitled Who Cares last week, the lads have no plans to pull the plug on the Bootleg Beach Boys.
“All five of us [in the Bootleg Beach boys] have other projects going on”, Mark said.
“However, it’s not as if we have to sign away our lives for the Bootleg Beach Boys, we’re all big fans of the Beach Boys and could do this forever – plus a Bootleg Beach Boys gig is always loads of fun.”
The band’s fans certainly seem to think so, with their popularity leading to sold out theatres and lots of international offers – with the lads actively looking to book a gig in London once they conclude their tour of Ireland.
The band continues their tour with upcoming dates in October across venues in Newbridge, Skerries, and Drogheda, among others.
