Boy assaulted at footbridge on first trip to the cinema

THE parents of a young boy who was assaulted on his first trip to the cinema in Liffey Valley, have appealed for public information surrounding videos of the attack posted online.
Jody Campion (13) and his friends were attacked unprovoked by a gang of older teenagers while crossing a footbridge connecting Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and King’s Hospital.

Some of the older youths appeared to be filming the attack on the phones, which left Jody, from Enfield, Meath, in A&E overnight over fears he sustained a concussion.
Jody’s parents Adrienne and Paul appeared on RTÉ’s Claire Byrne show on Monday night.
Adrienne said the movie was booked out and they decided to go home, but unfortunately passed by the older youths on the footbridge, and the “gang were on top of them”.
“Anyone who knows Jody, he is very quiet, maybe because he wears glasses they thought he was an easy target,” she said.
“For the next five seconds his life flashed in front of him, he was absolutely terrified because he knew what was going to follow.”
Gardai in Lucan are appealing for witnesses to the assault on two male youths that occurred “at approximately 5pm on Thursday, January 2, at a pedestrian footbridge on the N4 near Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.”
A Garda spokesperson said they are appealing for “any witnesses to come forward, as well as anyone who was walking on the pedestrian footbridge at approximately 5pm and any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area at the time.”
