Brave Hearts set for All-Ireland
SACRED HEART Boxing Club have nine fighters going forward to contest the All-Ireland Championships, after earning 11 medals at the Dublin Championships, reports Hayden Moore.
Of the 11 fighters from the Killinarden club to contest finals at the Dublin Championships on March 22, nine secured passage to the National equivalent after boxing their way to a title.
Three-time national champion Harley Salinger will be looking to retain his unbeaten status when he steps into the ring for the All-Ireland Boxing Championships early next week.
Salinger has been impeccable in the ring, securing a European gold medal last summer while his clubmate Abbey Molloy secured a European bronze medal.
After winning national silverware last year, Salinger secured his spot in the All-Ireland’s yet again with some fine displays in the Boy Four 36kg category at the county championships last month.
Brandon Geoghegan is another former national champion, having boxed his way to the Boy Three 48kg prize with a 5-0 triumph in the national decider in 2022.
Stepping up to the Boy Four 52kg category, Geoghegan will be hungry to add to his national haul when he steps into the National Stadium next week.
Molloy boxed her way to the Dublin Girl Four 43kg title and will also be out in action for Sacred Heart next week.
Keane Lynch (Boy Four, 46kg), Kayden Maguire (Youth One, 42kg), Zac Vause (Youth One, 50kg), Tyler Moore (Boy Two, 35kg), Comhghall Gurrine (Boy Three, 40kg) and Makayla Heapes (Girl Two, 51kg) were all crowned champions for the first time at the Dublin Championships.
Meanwhile, Cian Mahon (Youth One, 63kg) and Lacey Oglesby (Girl Two, 57kg) secured silver medals after reaching the deciders, but falling at the final hurdle.
All nine fighters who fought to gold medals in Dublin will be representing Sacred Heart Boxing Club on the national front when the All-ireland Championships kick off on Monday, April 10.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Sacred Heart boxing club has been revitalised with a new team of coaches and a plethora of young people joining their ranks.
At present, there is 40 junior kids and more than 20 senior boxers, the eldest of which is only 15-years-old, training in the club multiple times per week.
