Brian picks up Swim Award

HEAD Coach of Templeogue Swim Club Brian Sweeney was named the joint Performance Coach of the Year at the Swim Ireland Awrads this week.

Brian, who is coach to World Championships semi-finalist Ellen Walshe and who has also qualified for the Olympics in Paris next year, spoke of his delight at receiving his award.

“I’m delighted to receive this award, its not all about me, its about all the coaches in the club who play their part each week in training our members.

“This award represents all their hard work week in, week out.

“We have about 125 members in the club, and we have very good athletes in our club so to pick up this award is fabulous for all of them.

“We had a very strong season last year and with Ellen Walsh going to the Olympic next year, winning the Coach of the Year is an added bonus,”.

It certainly will be an important few months for Templeogue and particularly Ellen Walshe who qualified for the Olympics after hitting the qualification time with a record-breaking swim at the World Aquatics Championships in July.

“Ellen going to the Olympics, it’s just fantastic after recovering from her illness to qualify so early for the games.

“Her performances have been excellent, and everyone is delighted for her, and we are going to enjoy the build up to the games.

“Ellen teachers with our club and is really good with the younger members.

“All I want over the next few months is continued progress for all members”.
