British company selected to operate 10% of Dublin routes, including some in Tallaght, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin
British company Go-Ahead has won the tender to run 10% of Dublin Bus routes, including the 75 bus from Tallaght to Dun Laoghaire, the 76/76a bus from Tallaght to Chapelizod/Blanchardstown SC and the 239 bus from Liffey Valley Shopping Centre to the Blanchardstown Centre.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) made the announcement this morning, and the new operator will begin the takeover of the routes in November of 2018 – with full control expected to the competed by February 2019.

The NTA will retain the ownership of the fleet of buses, and will pay the new operator a fee to run the service.
Go-Ahead is one of the largest bus operators in London, and operate on behalf of Transport for London.
Dublin Bus had themselves applied for the franchise, as had Luas operators Transdev, while a number of other British operators were also interested in taking the 10% of routes on offer.
According to reports this morning, four of the six applications were withdrawn during the tendering process – with Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead left to battle it out for the routes.
Speaking this lunchtime, Go-Ahead Chief Executive David Brown said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work in partnership with the National Transport Authority to deliver a vital service to people living and working in and around Dublin.
“Ireland’s economic growth and planned public transport investments offer an exciting opportunity for us as we execute our strategy of targeted expansion into new markets.
“Drawing on expertise in employee engagement and customer experience gained in cities like London and Singapore, we will provide a service that links communities and takes care of people’s journeys.”
