Busy junction safety concerns raised by residents

THE Kingswood Heights Residents’ Association held a well-attended AGM in the Kingswood Community and Leisure Centre on Monday, December 20.

Three gardaí from Tallaght and two from Clondalkin were in attendance at the meeting to hear residents’ concerns and to inform them of their work in the community.

Community garda Shane Egan told those in attendance about the garda clinic that’s held in Kingswood every month, and also the garda school programme covering topics like cyberbullying.

Other topics discussed at the AGM included improving pedestrian safety at the junction of Katharine Tynan Road and Kilnamanagh by creating a wider crossing with a countdown pedestrian crossing.

Traffic easing around Kingswood Community College was also discussed, with parents being urged to turn left when they leave the school park to alleviate congestion.

“We’ve put a sign up asking parents when they’re exiting the school car park to turn left because it alleviates congestion,” said a spokesperson for the residents’ association.

“Even if they have to go out at the roundabout and turn back into the estate, it would help the flow of traffic for residents.”

Defibrillators also came up, as did the plans for the installation of a second defibrillator after one was installed at the community centre last year.

Questions were also asked about a sports hub potentially being developed in the area, and there was a call out for volunteers for a newly established Foróige club in Kingswood.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering for Foróige can drop into the community centre and leave their details.
