Busy times for Lucan Harriers

A VERY busy few days for Lucan Harriers racing started with the BHAA Grange Castle 5K, which took place on the club’s door step last week.

There was a great turnout from Harriers members on the Pfizer Campus.

Elsewhere, many of their senior members travelled to Tullamore to take part in the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon.

The club had 33 members cross the line, and there were also some ex-members and partners of members bringing the representation on the day to over 40.

A 10am start ensured all the Harriers travelling to the event made an early start to get to Tullamore to prepare and warm up.

Some of the members who PB’d were Orla McWeeney, Eoghan Shanley, Lhyne Ganadin, Olivia Thomas and Tony Keaney.

The race was also the national and Leinster Championship with Mary Browne coming home in 1.37.28 to earn silver in her category.

The O50 ladies team of Tricia Gough, Anne Whelan and Mary Browne got national and Leinster Bronze.

According to the club, it was great to see such a strong contingent travelling to such a great event.

Meanwhile in another midland town, Lucan had two athletes in Longford for the annual marathon.

Aidan Montague setting a PB of 3.25.20 and Jer O’Sullivan on his own marathon journey this year with a time of 3.29.

Jer has already completed five marathons and two ultra-marathons, with five left to complete in 2023.

Last week, we had Philip Fay and son Graham, Will Byrne and Daniel McCann complete the Ironman 70.3.

Well done and an incredible achievement, the club said.

Elsewhere, Lucan Harriers’ annual five-mile road race takes place on Sunday, September 3 at 11am.

The club is looking forward to the event and welcoming everyone to their track on the day.

The route takes in the Newcastle Road onto the canal and back along the Adamstown Road and back to Harriers track.
