Busy week for Harriers

IT’S been a very busy week for Lucan Harriers. Kicking off the week, the club had Ailbhe Breen, Claire Rigney and John Healy competing at the NIA Live in the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown at the weekend.

John Healy was in the 800 metres and came in 2:26.00, Claire Rigney 400 metres ran a time of 1:00.89 and Ailbhe Breen 400 metres came in 1:33.00.

On Saturday, Lucan Harriers were well represented at the Jingle Bells 5k.

A crisp December morning in The Phoenix Park, a typical Jingle bells morning for the annual running of the Donore Harriers festive 5K.

This was the 32nd year and encourages families to take part.

Recognised as one of Ireland’s fastest 5k. Santas, elves and all sorts of festive fancy dress on display on the morning.

The obligatory Christmas mug awaited all finishers at the finish line. A fantastic 34 Lucan Harriers registered for the race with super running by one and all.

The race started on the Acres Road close to the Cross, turns onto the Chesterfield, left at the Mountjoy junction, down past the Ordnance Survey meandering down the S bends to the finishing line near the back of Dt Marys hospital.

First male across the line was Ciaran Hughes in a time of 16.32 and Breda Smyth first lady in a time of 20.17.

Congratulations to Fiona Hegarty 26.21, Teresa O’ Rourke 23.58, and Dan Collins 19.48, Anne Marie Lavin 28.48 and Mary Lynch 24.53 on their PBs.

Loretta Geissel not only completed her first race but achieved a PB of 38.33.

Over in Valencia we had Jer O’ Sullivan who ran the Valencia marathon on December 3rd in 3:20:48.

Jer has completed an impressive 9 marathons and 3 ultras this year!
