C&C Group’s cider sales are boosted by summer sunshine
By Maurice Garvey
WORLD Cup fever and plenty of sunshine have provided a welcome boost to ailing cider sales for international drinks manufacturer C&C Group.
The Irish drinks giant, headquartered at Bulmers House in Crumlin, issued an update this week, citing positive trading across key markets, which they say was “helped by good weather and the World Cup”.

The boost will be welcomed by senior management at the firm, who saw Ireland negatively impacted over the last year by reduced volumes in their wholesale business and “reversion of certain customers” to direct supply from Belgian brewing company AB InBev.
C&C say the good early summer weather in Ireland has helped Bulmers return to “moderate volume growth” in the year to date.
Volume sales for Bulmers brands in Ireland fell by six per cent last year, despite a number of acquisitions and investments in new brands.
The company also said they continue to make progress on improving service levels and operational performance at Matthew Clark Bibendum – a UK distributor they acquired earlier this year.
C&C Chairman Brian Stewart stepped down at last week’s AGM, to be replaced by Stewart Gilliland.
Stephen Glancey, C&C Group CEO, said Gilliland joined the Board as a non-executive Director in 2012 and has “extensive industry and sector experience”.
