A CABLE fault left a number of homes without power overnight in Clondalkin, The Echo has learned.

The issue arose at approximately 5pm on Sunday, February 4, in the Harelawn estate – and temporarily left some 500 houses without power.

A spokesperson for ESB said crews were immediately mobilised to carry out repair work.

Crews identified a cable fault problem and managed to restore power to the majority of homes in the area.

However, an isolated section of 81 homes remained without power overnight, at Harelawn Drive and Park.

“The crew were back at first light and all residents had their power returned by 9am this morning,” said the ESB spokesperson.

A local resident told The Echo that ESB were posting automated updates on their phone service.

“Initially I was informed that 475 homes in the surrounding area were affected, including Weavers Court and Oatfield,” said the resident.

“There were a number of ESB vehicles in Harelawn Drive today, including a large ESB truck which was generating power into the area while the problem was worked on.”

Power was back to normal by 5pm this evening, but residents were warned there might be “intermittent outages” as the crew work to finish off repairs.
