Calls made for government to deliver Lucan CC extension

THE GOVERNMENT is being called on to deliver the extension at Lucan Community College. The call comes from local TD for Dublin Mid-West John Curran who received a reply on a parliamentary question last week from the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton.

Deputy Curran told The Echo: “I have been contacted from concerned parents from Lucan Community School in relation to this matter. Delivery and completion of the extension work at Lucan Community College is stuck and making no progress past the very early stage of Architectural Planning Process (Stage 2A).”

Deputy Curran said he was very disappointed with the Minister’s reply.

He added: “We are still unclear from the Minister’s reply as to when the project will receive approval to move to the next stage of development (Stage 2B), never mind a completion date and this is very unsatisfactory.”

Deputy Curran said he raised the issue with the then Minister Jan O’Sullivan who informed him that the project was listed to proceed to construction in 2016.

He said : “Yet the most recent reply from Minister Bruton does not even give a date for approval to proceed to the next stage never mind a date for completion let alone opening. This is very worrying for the entire school community at Lucan Community College”.

He said that the school’s current building is nearly 30 years old and the accommodation is over stretched and insufficient to cater for the growing school population and the needs of a modern teaching and learning environment.

Deputy Curran said: “I am calling on the Minister to seriously prioritise this issue and to give approval for this project to proceed to stage 2B. I will continue to follow up on this matter.”
