
Camogie success for Tower’s U16s and U13s
IT WAS a great day for Round Towers camogie section on Sunday with their U16 teams winning the championship title while their U13s secured the U13 shield crown.
In the U16 Championship final which was played in Abbotstown, Tower’s had to dig deep to see off the challenge of Na Fianna 4-5 to 1-4 in a well-contested encounter.
The Clondalkin side always had the edge in this encounter with Kitty Quinlan netting three goals to set them on their way.
The contest did hang in the balance mid-way through the second half but Quinlan’s goals along with a fine performance from Player of the Match Imogen Sullivan got them past the finish line.
The first half was evenly matched with Tower’s settling well with keeper Nora Jane Walsh along with Mary Kelly and Laoise O’Sullivan putting in fine shows.
O’Sullivan had earlier helped her Club to the U13 title battled well in the half backs while Sophie Butchart scored a fine goal along with points from Tara Kelly.

The successful U16 championship team
In the second half captain Emma Gilvarry led by example while midfielders Shonagh Byrne and Katelyn McKiernan worked hard.
However three goals in the space of four minutes proved the difference in the second half as the Tower’s girls stunned Na Fianna with a gritty display.
Meanwhile, Round Tower’s U13 camogie team secured the shield crown when they overcame Erin’s Isle in Finglas.
Only two points separated the teams at the break but Tower’s raised a gear on the change over to run out 6-4 to 3-2 winners.
Alyisa Rooney scored a great point for Tower’s in the second half while Faye Doherty helped herself to a hat-trick scoring two goals in the second in what was an impressive show.
Aoife Courtney had a solid outing at full back while Laoise O’Sullivan played at centre back.
