Car burnt out again – Liffey Gaels’ pitch ‘in absolute bits from burns’

ANOTHER car was burnt out on Liffey Gaels’ pitch – just two weeks after the pitch was repaired following a similar incident at the Ballyfermot sports ground.

Pictures posted on social media last Thursday showed a car burnt out in the goal area of the GAA pitch.

One resident said the pitch was in “absolute bits from tyre marks and burns.”

Cllr Daithí Doolan contacted the city council on behalf of residents, who removed the car and agreed to repair the pitch and secure an access gate.

“This is disgraceful – Liffey Gaels provide our community with a fantastic service,” said Cllr Doolan.

“This is an attack on the whole community. But I’m glad to say those involved won’t win.

“A collapsible bollard has been ordered for the initial gate which was damaged and it may be necessary to order the same for the second gate or a cowl fitted to protect the lock. I had discussions with the Chairperson and I will keep in contact with him until this issue has been resolved.”

Following the first joyriding incident, DCC placed a boulder at the entrance to the club on a temporary basis, but were understood to be looking at a permanent solution to prevent further such incidents.
