Car-park surface needs substantial investment
DESIGN works are being progressed by South Dublin County Council for the Bawnogue District Centre Enhancement Scheme.
According to a Taking-in-Charge (TIC) report by the council, there have been “ongoing requests” made to the council to carry out works to repair the car-park at the Clondalkin retail area.
The car-park surface, which is in very poor condition and requires an upgrade, is privately owned and registered to Bawnogue Shopping Centre Management Limited – now dissolved.
The report states there has been good engagement with local traders in a busy retail area which is the focal point of the community.
“At present the car-park is not to TIC standard and would require significant investment once TIC – possibly as Phase 2 of the DCEP (District Enhancement) Scheme,” said SDCC.
The site provides direct access routes from Ace Enterprise Park, the community centre and school, directly to the shopping centre.
The report considers the provision of additional public parking to offset any potential loss of parking along Bawnogue Road and the car-park works will aid objectives of the DCEP scheme in terms of improving the visual amenity and vibrancy of the area.
SDCC will advertise the proposed TIC shortly.
Signage will to be erected locally informing the community and there will be letter drops to all traders.
Submissions will be invited in relation to the proposal.
If there is a TIC, then works to the carpark will be carried out as Phase 2 of DCEP Scheme.
