CCTV cameras are reinstalled at troubled play area

THE reinstallation of CCTV cameras at the troubled playground in Balgaddy, will link live footage directly into the local garda stations.
Equipment at the playground - located beside Méile an Rí – has been repeatedly set alight and vandalised by youths.

Sinn Fein Councillor Mark Ward welcomed the reinstallation of the CCTV cameras at Méile an Rí.
Cllr Ward said: “I have been pursuing the installation of a new CCTV system at the playground. The previous CCTV system was managed by South Dublin County Council’s public realm section and was upgraded this year, but unfortunately it was subjected to significant vandalism which rendered it inoperable.
“Following the vandalism, the council’s housing department in consultation with gardai, authorised the installation of new CCTV in Meile an Ri. The difference with this new system is that the feed will be fed live into the local garda station.”
Work is currently underway at the site and includes the installation of anti-ramming poles to prevent further vandalism.
Cllr Ward continued: “This area is a black spot for anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping. The direct feed into the garda station should act as a deterrent to this behaviour and the people of Balgaddy can get back to using the playground for what it was designed for.”
