The group, which wishes to remain private, waited two weeks to make their claim.
According to the head of the syndicate: “Words cannot describe how good this feels.
“I’ve been playing the Lotto since the start and I only won once – when I matched five numbers about 20 years ago and won £700 pounds (Irish Punts).
“I’m delighted that we won as a syndicate and we will always have this win and our experience today as a memory together and the money will be a great boost to us all.”
So far this year, in excess of €50 million has been paid out in Lotto jackpot prizes alone.
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, community, arts, heritage and the Irish language.
In total more than €5.3 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.
