Celebrations for the 10th anniversary of festival

A NEW live rock band stage will be a feature of this year’s Lucan Festival, which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, while a host of other family fun events like historical walks, a garda station open day and a magic show will take place over the course of the five-day festival next week.
The festival will kick off on Wednesday, September 5, at 8pm, with a slideshow and talk on the statues and sculptures of Dublin City in Lucan Presbyterian Church, which will be followed by a history walk and talk on Thursday.

A public forum will be held in Lucan’s Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 7, at 10.30am, where local 4th and 5th class primary school pupils will ask some of Lucan’s senior citizens about their schooldays in Lucan.
The gates to the grounds of the Italian ambassador’s residence, Lucan House, will open at 1pm on Saturday with tickets costing €5 for people aged 12 and up, while St Andrew’s Parish Centre will play host to a model railway display by the South Dublin Model Railway Club and a photography exhibition from 2pm to 5.30pm.
The highlight of the festival’s calendar of events is on Sunday, September 9, at 1pm, where a smorgasbord of events will be held in Lucan village, including an open day at Lucan Garda Station, a puppet show, a live music stage, a performance by the Lucan Gospel Choir and an outside broadcast by Liffey Sound.
Joe Byrne, chairman of the Lucan Festival, told The Echo: “We’ve tried to make sure that everything is either free or at the lowest possible fee, so we hope that people will come down and enjoy themselves.
“We’re hoping for reasonably good weather.”
