A VISUAL story of the 70th anniversary year of Ballyfermot is celebrated in a photo collection book, created by Ballyfermot Heritage Group.

Launched on Monday at Ballyfermot Library, the book contains up to 1,400 images of local residents attending events throughout the year held to celebrate the anniversary.

The album is available for €8 at Ballyfermot Library, or from a heritage group member, and would make an ideal Christmas present or souvenir.

Ken Larkin, from the Ballyfermot Heritage Group said some of the profits from the photo album will go to a designated charity decided by members, and the remainder will go towards heritage projects in 2019.

“We would like to thank Ballyfermot and Inchicore Credit Union, Dublin City Council, and Gerry McCarthy and the Ballyfermot Youth Service for all their help and support.”

The book launch on Monday was a triple header, which also saw the turning on of Christmas lights and two local volunteers honoured for their work.

“Ballyfermot Festival Group honoured Pam O’Reilly and Marie Dodrill, while Sean Brennan from the heritage group, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, turned on the Christmas tree lights at the library,” said Ken.

Pam O’Reilly was instrumental in ensuring a third-level college (BCFE) was established in Ballyfermot many years ago, whilst Marie has been involved with Ballyfermot Credit Union and local football teams for over 22 years.
